AFV Certificate: What is it and why do you need it?

In the UK, if you have a Category B driving licence, you can now drive alternatively fuelled vehicles (AFVs) up to 4.25 tonnes. However, you need to have completed the relevant training and have an AFV Certificate in order to do so legally.

The AFV Certificate is proof that you have the knowledge and skills necessary to drive an AFV safely.

The training covers a range of topics, including:

• The different types of AFVs and their operating characteristics

• The risks associated with driving AFVs

• The safe handling and charging of AFVs

• The legal requirements for driving AFVs

The AFV Certificate is valid for five years, after which you will need to retake the training if you want to continue driving AFVs.

There are a number of reasons why you need an AFV Certificate. Firstly, it is the law. If you are caught driving an AFV without a certificate, you could be fined or even prosecuted.

Secondly, an AFV Certificate will give you the confidence to drive an AFV safely. The training will teach you about the risks associated with AFVs and how to mitigate them. This will help you to drive more safely and avoid accidents.

Finally, an AFV Certificate can make you more attractive to employers. As more and more businesses switch to AFVs, employers will be looking for drivers who have the necessary training and skills. Having an AFV Certificate will show that you are up-to-date with the latest technology and that you are committed to driving safely.

If you are interested in getting an AFV Certificate, give us a call today on 01482 420542

The cost of the training is currently £80.00 + VAT. Once you have completed the training, you will be issued with an AFV Certificate.

If you are a Category B driver who wants to drive AFVs, then getting an AFV Certificate is essential. The training will give you the knowledge and skills you need to drive AFVs safely and legally.

Here are some of the benefits of having an AFV Certificate:

• You can legally drive AFVs up to 4.25 tonnes.

• You will be more confident driving AFVs.

• You will be more attractive to employers.

• You will be helping to reduce emissions and improve air quality.

Anyone caught driving an alternative fuel van with a standard Category B licence that hasn’t completed the training, or flouts any of the other rules, could be subject to a level three fine of £1,000. Both Employer and Employee can be prosecuted.
